LANGTANG VALLEY

 

We are looking for fit and healthy optometrists to provide primary eye care for the people of Langtang National Park. This will be our first trip in the region, and you will be tested at the villages of Khagjim, Langtang, and Thulo Syafrund. Langtang is one of the most popular trekking regions in Nepal. You will pass through dense forests, traditional ethnic settlements, a Holy Lake, and surrounding mountain peaks.

Day 1

PRE-TREK: Meet & Greet in Kathmandu (1330m)

The drive from the airport to the hotel is around 20 minutes. Our representative will set a time for your trek briefing. We will then show you around Thamel before enjoying cultural dinner at a fine local restaurant to formally welcome you to Nepal.

Day 2

Drive to Shyabru Besily

Our private jeep will take us on a 7 hours drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. Experience the scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Syabrubesi passing through Dhunche. We past the banks of Trishuli river to catch a glimpse of Ganesh Himal, terraces and green hills. From Trishuli to Syabru-beshi the road is rough so bring some motion sickness tablets.

Day 3

Syafru to Sherpa Gou (2475m)

We start our trek beside the main trekking route. After crossing the bridge we ascend up to Khamjim Alt.2160m for lunch. After lunch, ascend further for a great view of Ganesh Himal, Shisapangma, Langtang and many other beautiful snow peaks. Keep your eyes peeled for the Red Panda, Wild Pig, Langur (white monkey), Bears and different kinds of birds. Sherpa Gou is a small village beside the hill side.

Day 4

Sherpa Gou to Langtang Village (3490m)

From Sherpa Gou , we continue to ascend above the Langtang Khola. The trail bears sights like Langtang Lirung (7246m) and leads to a log bridge and lush meadow at Ghora-tabela (2992m). Further on, the route opens up into a wide valley of yak pastures and scattered Tamang villages showcasing water-driven mills and prayer wheels. We arrive at Langtang village after crossing a stream, which has flat-roofed Tibetan style houses, hotels and cultivated lands growing buckwheat, potatoes, wheat, turnips, barley etc.

Day 5

Eye Testing at Langtang

We spend an entire day performing eye tests for the people of Langtang. Langtang is the biggest village in the National Park.

Day 6

Langtang to Kyanjin Gompa (3805m)

The trail skirts gradually through rich yak pastures and interesting traditional villages like Mundu to Singdun. We cross a wooden cantilever bridge and reach a wide valley after climbing through some moraine. Finally, on ascending along the mountain passes we arrive at Kyagjin Gompa. There is a small monastery and a government-operated cheese factory.

Day 7

Rest or Hike to Kyanjin Ri (5150m)

Today you may choose to have a full day of rest and relaxation or attempt Cherku-ri at 5,150m! From the summit, you can admire spectacular panoramic view of Langtang Himalaya ranges. A glacier walk or Langshisha Kharka is possible depending on your fitness and interest.

Day 8

Kyanjin Gompa to Rimche (2465m)

After a morning visit around Kyangjin Gompa, we return to Remche by our original route.

Day 9

 Rimche to Thulo Shyafru (1850m)

The beginning of the trail descends into a previous landslide and steeply up to Thulosyabru. Keep a lookout for red pandas, monkeys and various species of birds. Thulosyabru is a wonderful village where you can experience nature and view of Ganesh Himal (7110m), Langtang Himal and its ranges.

Day 11

Tholo Syafru to Lauribinaya (3890m)

The trail from Thulo Syabru to Foprang Danda (3200m) follows a steep ascent through Dursagang (2660m), which bears views of Langtang and Ginesh Himal.  The trail eventually flattens out at Sing Gompa in Lauribinaya. There is a well managed local cheese factory and a Buddhist Monastery here. The cheese manufactured here is considered the best in Nepal.

Day 12

Lauribinaya to Gosaikunda (4400m)

There is a steep ascent to Gosaikunda. On a clear day, even the Annapurna range can be seen. You pass a few huts in the high pasture of Laurebinayak, cross a small ridge and have your first views of the holy lake of Gosaikunda. There are about a dozen lakes in the Gosainkunda Basin. The main three being Saraswatikunda, Bhairabkunda and Gosainkunda. According to legend, Gosainkunda was created by Shiva when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after having swallowed a poison that threatened to destroy the world.

Day 13

Gosaikunda to Ghopte (3840m)

The trail leaves Gosaikund and climbs through rugged country, past four small lakes to the Laurebina Pass (4610 meters), the highest point of this trek. Keep looking back at the spectacular views of Manaslu and the mountains of the Ganesh Himal, as well as the now familiar Langtang Lirung. You then descend steeply to stay near Gopte.

Day 14

Ghopte to Tharepati (3690m)

We descend into a forested area and climb through a dry river-bed to arrive at a Kharka that is surrounded by rhododendron forest. we climb through the forest to arrive at the village of Tharepati. Tharepati village gives you a marvelous view of the Jugal area.

 

Day 16

Kutumsang to Kathmandu

After breakfast we take a jeep drive back to Kathmandu. The drive takes around 6 hours. Look forward to some good rest and laundry service. The evening is free to do some more shopping and enjoy dinner as a team!

Day 15

Tharepati  to Kutumsang (2455m)

After breakfast, we walk through the forest, sometimes on the ridges of hills then descend to Magengoth. There was an Army camp here before. Two lodges are still there. The trail now gently climbs to the hill then descend through the rhododendron forest where there are a few shepherds’ huts. The trail still continues further down to Kutumsang.

Day 17

Sightseeing in Kathmandu

We visit a local family run restaurant to learn to make either 'Dhal Bhat' or Momo or a visit to the Singing Bowl Master to learn about Art of Meditation. The evening is free for you to do some more shopping and enjoy your last dinner as a team!

Last day in Kathmandu

After breakfast there maybe time to squeeze in some sightseeing and shopping. What a way to finish our adventure! We wish you a safe journey home!
